This is what Google’s new user interfaces remind me of. Lots of whitespace. No contrast. Lack of borders. 

Yeah, it’s astounding how terrible it is.  Borders are totally useful, they concentrate and focus attention.  Also, the color scheme is whack.  Red being used on the white background to call things out?  (1) Really bad color for that.  (2)  What on earth are you calling out?  The subscribe button?  How many times a day does someone subscribe to something new?  Why do you really want to bring that into the visual forefront?
Also - the title of the RSS feed that I’ve just selected and am currently reading?  Really?  Am I not going to know what that is?  Or is there something wrong with it?  Maybe it’s something of a judgment on their part.   “Really?”  it says to me, “You are seriously going to spend the next 5 minutes of your life reading Gawker?  You know you’re at work, right?”
