Three things:
1) You laugh to keep from crying.
2) This made me laugh a whole bunch.
3) It is *absurd* how much time I spend using Apple products, and how many I own.  There is literally a stack of retired apple laptops on my bookcase.  I wouldn’t conceive of buying a different machine for my personal use, and had I the choice I would switch over at work as well.
The difference in the usability of Apple systems from the nearest competitors (regardless of the product line) is profoundly striking.  And from everything I’ve read about the way Apple worked was that it was ALL due to Steve Jobs.  Not that he did everything in Cupertino, or sketched all of the designs.  But he was the quintessential example of a strong-willed man with a vision.  Not only was he able to provide vision, but he was also able to pay attention to the minutest details, making sure that no detail deviated from the vision.
Apple’s success is due entirely to there being a single, well expressed, guiding voice to show the way.  It is SO DIFFICULT to find a situation where there is clarity of vision, much more difficult to get a large group of talented people executing a plan to make that vision a reality.  Apple’s enormous success is a testament to the power of that situation, and it was made possible by Steve Jobs.
I’m very sad that the world lost a visionary like Steve, and I’m full of sorrow that he was taken at such a young age.  RIP Steve, and thanks.
